My complaint - the lack of "trendy" plus size retailers. My solution - Trendy retailers just need to make plus size garments.
So just as I was complaining about this topic to one of my bloggeristas Kee from iStyleLikeMe in walks H&M.
H&M releases this statement:
This spring H&M presents Inclusive – a one-off collection of colourful and feminine fashion with lots of attitude in a wider than usual range of sizes.
The twenty pieces will be available in sizes 32-54 and will be sold exclusively through H&M Online from early March. The collection includes figure-flattering party dresses in 50’s styles with large polka dots and rose patterns, as well as skirts, tops, cardigans and lingerie following the same theme.
The capsule collection pictured above features two gorge curvy divas, Lauren McKenzie and Robyn Lawley. In case you're wondering what Euro sizes 32-54 converts to ... it's US sizes 6-24. I'm an 18 - Yippee!
However remember we said exclusively online. H&M does not ship to the US yet.
Thank you H&M for inflating and deflating my big happy blog post all in one short breath. *sighs*
As I read the press release I did notice that no where did it mention the words plus size, missy, full figured, fattie, or anything of sorts. Why not just say "Inclusive – a plus size collection exclusively for H&M Online". Perhaps it's because of their original plus size collection BiB Collection (Big is Beautiful) sizes 18-28 is also online.
I can only speculate that this line isn't doing so well (I will have to do more research). From the looks of the online pictures it's like a Forever21 knockoff and that just seems wrong.
So where are my UK readers I need a sample!
[Update: While reading up about the collection I found this: "The online only thing is supposed to be a nod to the way plus size women shop. When Australian designer Leona Edmiston expanded her offering to a size 24 in 2008, her research indicated that many plus sized women buy online because they’re not comfortable shopping in stores." SMDH I love shopping & trying on clothes - when they fit! Their research is crap!]
I was excited for a hot minute. Why on earth do these folks think us Plus Size women would not need to try on our clothes before purchasing them. That's a blower. That is why I no longer patronize Old Navy. It seems like they're saying were not important enough or they don't wanna see our PHAT @sses in person they just wanna take our money wich ends up just being the shipping fee when we have to send the mess back becuz it doesn't fit properly! Gimme a break!
ReplyDeleteWell this would all be nice and dandy if you could actually TRY the clothes on?! You buy a dress, you're super excited, and then you receive it...Whoops, doesn't fit! Even if the return shipping is free, I hate going through all the trouble of sending it back and getting something else. Whatever!
ReplyDeleteToo bad H&M won't yet ship BiB to the US. There seems to be so much demand in the US for plus size. Hopefully, the BiB EU roll out will be successful and allow for the company to have confidence to make great clothes for the US market. Fingers crossed so we can all get more plus size dresses!
ReplyDeleteI just wish it would ship to the US although actually having some in the store so we can try on would be nice. I would actually buy my trendy stuff at H&M... their reasonably priced and I usually have several things I like their when I go... problem is fitting my wide self into stuff. You would think they would make it available in store or online for the US customers so they could sell more.
ReplyDeleteI am really hoping that H&M will begin to sell this capsule collection in the US stores. I think we should start an online petition or something?
