Friend Friday {Big Blog, Small Blog}

This Friend Friday we're talking about the pressures of blogging. You know the dreaded (or perhaps wanted) transition of small blog to big time professional blogger. *sighs*

The blogger that says they don't want to blog full time, shouldn't be blogging. Difference is, I want it to happen naturally.

Enjoy the Q&A and leave your thoughts at the end!

1. Have you ever looked at someone's blog and thought yours will never measure up? I think Katy from ModlyChic says it best. "I think fashion blogging is a lot like going through high school all over again." Difference is I am not in high school and I had to realize readers love you and come back because of who you are or who you portray to be. So I simply use other bloggers as an inspiration but not a my samples of right or wrong.

2. Do you (did you) feel pressure to meet some kind of undefined
standard for fashion bloggers? I do sometimes look at BryanBoy, Susie Bubble, and Tavi and wonder if I could be in their shoes too. How did they get there? Is there a standard operations of procedure that no one wants to share with me. Or is it only room from a few. Will the world get tired of them and seek out another new haute quirky blogger to drool over.  But then I come back to reality and realize the "standard" for fashion blogging is being yourself.

3. Many established fashion bloggers are also extraordinary DIYers,
bakers, and crafty people. Do you think you need to combine all of
these things to be successful at blogging? I think in order to be successful at blogging you do at least need to be crafty at something. Whether it's with your words, or images, or you're a DIYer, or something. You have be something your reader isn't or wishes to be better at.

4. The most successful blogs are the ones that have their own personal
voice - how are you developing your voice or how did you find yours? I am still finding my voice and figuring out who I am as a blogger/writer. This year I really want to show people that I am an expert ... at being me!

5. Toot your own horn... what's one thing you do that is unique to you
and your blog? What gives your blog an edge? I am also an editor of a larger magazine so I am able to share the behind the scenes to some of the events and shoots. I think I am also kinda funny and through my humor I bond with my readers.

PSA: Congrats to Katy over at Modly Chic. She will be "penning a
corresponding article for IFB" on our weekly FBFF topic. I speak for every member (new or old) we really appreciate you babes! LOL.

  1. So as a baby blogger I must say the world of blogging is quite intimidating. I wonder if its even worth trying to catch up to those with so many followers. I wonder what people think when they read my blog. I wonder if they like what they are reading or do they really get what im saying.

There are many more questions I ask but as you said, you can not compare you succes to someone elses. There will always be someone better and there will always be someone worst. Use it as a guide and a motivator but never to measure.

  2. True indeed! It's just like how you feel when you jump in the makeup game, or the photography game... you're new, there are experts already there who have been doing this for years that know more than you do. But what I love about blogging is that there is a community of folks that really give you feedback and offer support. Like this group #FBFF (you should join). We ask questions, vent, send congrats - its the most inviting situation I have been in... blogging that is! LOL.

  5. I liked your answers, short and sweet and so true. I agree with you when you say the standard is being yourself, people are very voyeuristic, they like the inside view of different people's thoughts and lifestyles.

  6. I stumbled across your blog some weeks ago and must admit- it's pretty good! This post is quite reassuring as I am new to blogging. As a novice, I find that I am more focused on how to set myself apart from others, when it really should be about being true to myself. Thanks for sharing.
