Friend Friday {The Authenticity of Blogging }

au·then·tic /ôˈTHentik/
1. Of undisputed origin; genuine: "authentic 14th-century furniture".
2. Made or done in the traditional or original way: "authentic
Italian meals"

This week's Friend Friday topic is about authenticity. And my definition of it as it relates to blogging.

1. Most readers and fellow fashion bloggers value authenticity in the
blogs they read. How would you describe blog/blogger authenticity? Blog authenticity to me is when your blog screams "YOU!". Let me explain. In the world of fashion and beauty it's hard to really be the 1st person to report news, or the first person to blog about a trend. We all get information from other sources or we are inspired by something. Which normal means another blogger has done it, thought it, or wrote about it. So an authentic blog to me is a blog that shows personality, creativity, and it's inviting. I compare it to someone sitting on my couch and chatting with me for a few. Are my readers comfortable ... or do they feel like my neighbor sounds just like me?

2. When it comes to your blog how to you infuse it with that true/
authentic feeling? I always give my thoughts or slightly humorous commentary to my blog posts. It brings the reader closer to me as a writer and allows them to trust what I am posting. Otherwise they could very well search the internet for any news on fashion or beauty. This is a blog - not a magazine. People want my opinion on stuff, or at least I would like to think that they do, LOL.

3. Have you stopped following a blog in the last three months? What
made you lose interest? I have. Mostly blogs that simply repost (without giving their opinions) fashion news or trends from the same blogs that I follow. Or bloggers who I found on twitter and I like their "twitter personality" but NOT their blogs.

4. We can't communicate effectively on our blogs, something we don't
live in real life... what are some ways you try to live an authentic
life? Ha! I am an expert at being me. And that's as authentic as it gets!

5. Give a shout-out... Which bloggers do you think are truly genuine
and why? I look to Taliah and Therese (my 3TMafia crew, LOL) for support. They are two ladies from the same area, both with a full load of "stuff" going on. They're my blog besties (I am still taking applications, LOL). Kudos to my bff Bethany for FINALLY starting a blog after I BEGGED her for all of 2010. She's off to a great start, be sure and go say hi - we live for comments!

Of course let me not forget my Blog Mentors (mostly in my mind). These are bloggers who I look to for inspiration, or I really like where they are going so I keep up with their blogs - Clumps of Mascara, Love Brown Sugar, Cupcakes and Cashmere, Curves and Chaos, and Kitty Bradshaw. (also take a look at my Muse Monday - highlighting my fav blogs!)
